A third-generation Huntsville Police Officer, Captain Tony McElyea has dedicated more than seventeen years to serving the citizens of Huntsville with integrity, compassion, and a deep sense of purpose. Throughout his career, he has led with a heart for both public safety and community connection.

Now serving as Captain of the Huntsville Police Department’s Special Operations Division, Tony brings a wealth of experience from his prior roles, including Commander of the North Alabama STAC Team and Community Resource Unit Supervisor. His leadership reflects a balanced approach—firm in accountability yet grounded in empathy and collaboration.

A proud graduate of the Diversity Leadership Colloquium (DLC Cohort X), Tony values the ongoing relationships and insights that experience has brought to his service. He believes diversity and inclusion strengthen every level of public safety and continues to champion those principles throughout his work.

Outside of his role with HPD, Tony enjoys staying active, spending time with his daughters, and continuing to build meaningful connections throughout the Huntsville community.
