Kamilah Torres

Kamilah is a nonprofit consultant, community advocate, and proud Puerto Rican with deep roots in both the healthcare and nonprofit sectors. With over 25 years of experience, her work is grounded in lived experience—as a survivor of gender-based violence, as someone who has had to navigate systems not built for people like her, and as someone who knows firsthand the power of community, language, and resilience. Through her consulting practice, Catalysta Consulting, LLC, she helps mission-driven organizations develop funding strategies and build more equitable, culturally responsive programs that truly reflect the communities they serve.

For over two years, Kamilah has worked with a local agency as the Outreach Director serving survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking—particularly those from immigrant and limited-English-speaking communities. There, she led statewide outreach and training initiatives to raise awareness, build partnerships, and expand culturally responsive support services. Today, she continues this work as a Refugee Services Program Director where she helps resettled individuals and families navigate their new lives, access resources, and move toward long-term self-sufficiency.

Kamilah holds certifications as a Community Health Worker and Medical Interpreter, and a degree in Healthcare Management. But more than anything, she brings her full self to the work: her cultural pride, her compassion, and her belief that every person—no matter their language, background, or circumstance—deserves to be seen, supported, and heard.

She is the mother of two adult sons and the proud grandmother of three. She finds joy in travel, movies, dancing, and the ocean—especially when they bring her closer to new cultures, new stories, and new chances to rest and heal.
