Melissa McCrary

Melissa was born is Georgia and later moved to Madison County at the age of 15.  She’s a deeply committed advocate for victims and survivors of domestic violence. Her personal journey through hardship and resilience has shaped her compassion and fueled her passion for advocacy.

As part of the Domestic Violence Responder Program in Madison County, Alabama, Melissa brings both lived experience and professional dedication to her role. Melissa had served in a leadership position for 18 years before joining  PPG in 2015, demonstrating her ability to lead with strength, integrity, and perseverance.

Melissa’s story is one of survival and transformation. Growing up, she witnessed her mother endure 18 years of abuse and survive life-threatening violence. She also experienced abuse at the hands of her father until she found refuge with her aunt, and later faced abusive relationships of her own, including a physically abusive partner and a verbally abusive, alcoholic husband. These experiences did not define her, but instead gave her the perspective and determination to bring hope and awareness to others walking similar paths.

Today, Melissa is proud to serve alongside the Advocacy Family Network team, using her voice to bring a deeper level of awareness, transparency, and hope to hurting families. Her strength, authenticity, and dedication make her an invaluable part of the movement to break the cycle of domestic violence.
